What a magical scene, the “Snow-swept boulevard”
on the front page of the Echo (Dec 3).
Southend-on-“Med” in all its glory, with palm trees capturing a true English winter scene, standing soldier like, reminiscent of old battered chimney sweep’s brushes, waiting for Mary Poppins and Bert to conjure up some magic to brighten their dismal appearance, or should that hopefully be their disappearance!
How much nicer the scene with cheaper native deciduous trees, snow festooning their many branches, than these sad testaments to the waste of ratepayers’ money by our egotistical councillors.
If the one in the foreground is anything to go by, almost certainly a case of “there goes most of my rates”, at £600 each to replace, for next year.
