PLAY areas in Thurrock have been given £800,000 of Government money for refurbishment over the next two years.
Sue MacPherson, Thurrock councillor responsible for children’s services, said: “I don’t often get excited about reports, but this is different.
“This is a fantastic way to get children out. It’s not just slides and swings, it’s equipment which allows young people to explore new areas while playing.”
Ten of the borough’s play areas are set to benefit from the cash in the next financial year with a further nine getting a facelift the year after.
Delafields Park, Little Thurrock and Horndon Recreational Ground will each get £25,000, Bulphan and Aveley recreation grounds will each get £30,000, and Balstonia Park, in Stanford-le-Hope £35,000.
Both Nutberry Fields in Stifford Clays and Grays Riverside Park will get £42,000, while Gobions Park, in East Tilbury, and Grays Park will each get £50,000.
Chadwell Heath has been allocated £60,000.
