A TEENAGER who stole a three-piece suite and burgled his own mum’s house has been locked up for 16 months.

Recovering alcoholic Aaron Cullen, 19, broke into a flat in Hermitage Drive, Basildon, and stole £750 worth of goods.

The haul included a leather sofa, DVD player and £10.

Cullen also admitted breaching an 18-month community order, which was imposed last year after he burgled his mum’s home in Ghyllgrove Close, Basildon.

On that occasion he stole a necklace, digital camera, XBox and £20.

Yesterday, at Basildon Crown Court, Judge Michael Brooke sentenced the defendant to 16 months in a young offender’s institution.

Judge Brooke said he had taken into account the fact Cullen had returned the property he had stolen from the flat.

He also said credit was due for Cullen’s confession to police and he acknowledged efforts had been made to address his alcohol addiction.

Cullen, of Ghyllgrove, Basildon, pleaded guilty to the latest burglary, which took place between March 30 and April 2, at an earlier hearing.
