THUNDERSLEY Guides are taking part in the largest ever summer Scouting and Guiding event in Essex.

This summer, Frinton will be home to a huge UK Scout and Guide camping event.

The camp runs from tomorrow until August 2, and will provide the opportunity for Scouts and Guides from across the county to take part in their own locally- organised jamboree. More than 5,000 participants will attend from Essex and another 5,000 will travel from across the UK and from more than 30 countries around the world.

The event will be supported by more than 2,000 adult volunteers.

Sarah Jarvis, ten, from the 1st Thundersley Guides, said: “The jamboree is great for meeting new people and making new friends.

“I’m looking forward to having some new friends.”

Participants will camp for seven nights and will have the opportunity to enjoy more than 100 adventurous activities over the course of five days.

The youngsters can also gain awareness about protecting their environment through community projects, such as conservation work and undertaking recycling schemes.

Charlotte Stevens, 13, from the 1st Thundersley Guide Company, said: “I’m looking forward to being able to do all the different activities at the Essex International Jamboree, especially those which help other people, like the conservation work.”
