BOYRACERS will be able to race and show off their cars at an official cruise.

The Arena Essex raceway event will be professionally marshalled and see car enthusiasts pay to race their cars on the professional track.

The JDM All Stars, a professional driftracing team, will also be on hand showing off their stunts.

Drifting is a type of motorsport where the driver skids the car’s rear tyres through turns, keeping control of the vehicle and exiting at high speed.

The cruisers will be able to try their hands at the sport themselves by taking part in a driftracing competition.

There will also be a contest and prizes given out for the best modified car as well as DJs and food stands.

The event comes just a week after a dispersal order against boyracers was brought in by traffic police.

The order bans cruisers from gathering on roads across south Essex, including Basildon’s Paycocke Road and industrial areas and the A126 in Thurrock.

Paula McQuade, secretary at Arena Essex, said the venue was providing the cruisers with a safe place to enjoy their cars.

She said: “There have been problems with the cruisers on local roads and we have had problems ourselves.

“They used the Lakeside roads and people assume that the noise is coming from our venue.

“But, we are keen to show local residents that we haven’t been causing the problems and we are happy to provide a solution to the problem.

“Arena Essex is a safe environment for the kids where they can get off the road.”

The event, called Pure-Carma, is being held at the raceway on the Arterial Road, Purfleet, on Saturday, August 2.

It takes place from 4pm to 1am.

Entry costs £25 per car and £8 per person. Racing cars on the track costs an additional £5.

The event is expected to be a regular fixture on the calendar, held on the first and third Saturdays of every month.
