THE family of a woman killed in a road crash have accepted police claims that stone-throwing yobs did not play a part in her death.

Suzanne Singer, 40, from Shoebury, died on Saturday, December 22, last year, when her car veered from the A127 and hit a tree.

She was heading home after buying bagels from a shop in Gants Hill when the accident happened, shortly before 11pm.

Police launched an investigation into whether an object was thrown at Suzanne’s Vauxhall Corsa after other motorists complained of stones, branches and an airgun pellet hitting their cars.

But officers have now closed the investigation, having found no evidence to suggest the smash was caused by a missile.

Suzanne’s sister Caroline Say, 36, of Shakespeare Drive, Westcliff, said: “The police have closed the investigation because they found nothing wrong with the car and nothing to indicate there was anything else that caused the accident. We’ve been told she died of internal injuries and we had her cremated at the end of January. It was just one of those things – fate. It was meant to be.”

Shortly after her death, Mrs Say described her sister as a “bubbly, fun-loving, but sensitive” woman, who loved eating out and playing bingo.

A section of road on the Southend-bound carriageway was closed until 2.30pm the next day as specialist search officers and scenes of crime officers carried out a detailed examination of the scene.

Nishan Wijeratne, spokes-man for Essex Police, said the police had closed their investigation, but could not comment further because of the impending inquest, due to be held once Basildon Coroner’s Court has fixed a date.
