A MOTORIST was high on ecstasy and alcohol when he ploughed into a lorry, killing his friend.

Adrian Blake, 26, got behind the wheel of his BMW and drove as fast as 90mph after taking the Class A drug and drinking.

He left a nightclub in Kent with his friend and neighbour Alfred Field, 20, driving home to Basildon.

The pair never made it and the horrific A13 accident claimed Alfred’s life, leaving Blake, of Timberlog Lane, Basildon, with only minor injuries.

Blake admitted causing death by dangerous driving and was jailed for four years and banned from driving for ten.

Eleanor Laws, prosecuting, told the court Blake’s blue BMW was seen weaving across lanes on the A13 at midnight on March 24, last year.

As the car approached the Stifford interchange, it ploughed into an Asda lorry joining the carriageway from a slip road.

Miss Laws said: “The defendant drove straight into the rear of the lorry, without braking and without, in fact, appearing to take any evasive action."

Alfred died instantly from a head injury.
