IF YOU think you’ve got it rough this Christmas, spare a thought for this poor dog who has spent the past three years in kennels.

Scooby has been receiving loving care at Gemini Kennels in Wickford, but has had no luck in finding a new home.

Kennel bosses have now pleaded for a family to take the six-year-old Rhodesian Ridge- back in for Christmas.

Michael Knight, co-owner of the kennels, said: “He first came in as a stray. We did find him a home when he first arrived three years ago, but they gave him back.

“He really is a fantastic dog and it would be ideal to get him a home in time for Christmas. There has to be a home out there for him.”

Mr Knight thinks Scooby would best suit a family with teenage children. He added: “He just needs a special home and someone who understands the breed. He’s very affectionate and not aggressive, but he is cautious of other dogs.”

Despite his three-year stay, there is hope for Scooby, particularly with Gemini’s record at rehoming lifers.

Back in January this year the Echo told how Errol, a cross border collie who had spent 70 dog years behind bars, was rehomed in south-west London.

This week, Gemini managed to rehome two English bull terriers that had been in kennels for two years.

Mr Knight said: “At the end of the day it will be sad to see Scooby go, but there are plenty of others that need homes. This is the time when people realise Christmas is here and they need to get rid of their dog.

“That is very sad to see.

“Hopefully people will see Scooby would make an excellent pet.”

Scooby has been vaccinated and is well trained on the lead. If you can make his a happy Christmas call the kennels on 01268 725825.
