AN ADVENTURE playground for children with disabilities has been redeveloped and renamed thanks to support from the community.
To celebrate a £15,000 makeover, the Fryerns Adventure Playground for children with special needs has been renamed the Safe Haven and Respite Environment, to be known as Share.
Youngsters and their families who use the playground, based at the Fryth in Whitmore Way, Basildon, marked the reopening of the facility with a festive fun afternoon.
Brian Roskams, chairman of Share, said: “The children had a wonderful time. It was actually quite an emotional afternoon as around 140 bikers from motorbike clubs across the UK also came along to support us.
“They all brought along gifts for the children which was lovely. We also had platters of food donated by Greggs the Bakers and Sainsbury’s.”
The playground, which is used by 150 children and adults, is based within a demountable building at the Fryth.
Before the makeover, it was in dire need of new electrical wiring and other improvements.
The funding has come from grants from several organisations.
