A 28ft cruiser had to be towed to shore after breaking down in the estuary.

RNLI Lifeboats from Southend and Sheerness stations helped tow the boat, which had two passengers onboard, to safety.

The Colvic cruiser was about a mile off-shore from the Phoenix Unit, Southend, when the engine failed yesterday afternoon.

It was taken to a spare council mooring off Westcliff and the two passengers taken safely ashore.
