A THREE-car crash on the A127 caused traffic chaos among drivers heading for Southend seafront.

The accident took place on the Southend-bound carriageway just before Rayleigh Weir about 1.50pm today.

According to firefighters, the pile-up meant that the underpass had to be closed for about half an hour which caused long tailbacks during the hot weather.

Only one person was reportedly injured and treated by paramedics at the scene. The injuries were not thought to be serious.

Police said that a red Ford Fiesta, a blue Ford Mondeo and a blue BMW were the cars involved.

Another less serious accident took place between two cars at Rayleigh Weir just 10 minutes before this one.
