A FISHERMAN was airlifted to hospital after breaking his leg on a boat.

Thames Coastguard received a call to the fishing vessel Win which was in the mouth of the River Crouch.

The 56-year-old man was taken by RAF helicopter to Southend Hospital following the incident about 3.50pm on Friday.

A coastguard spokeswoman said: “It was reported that the skipper of the vessel had broken his leg.

“His oilskin had caught in the winch and the force of it had pulled him over and broken his leg.”
