DOG lovers are being encouraged to microchip their canine friends at a special event in Shoebury tomorrow.

Organised by Southend Council and the town's Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, the event will take place between 11am and 3pm tomorrow, Friday, in the car park at Asda supermarket, in North Shoebury Road, Shoebury.

Each microchip will cost £16, and the tiny device can help reunite lost pets with their owners.

Tony Cox, Southend councillor responsible for public protection and waste said: “Microchipping is a great opportunity to help protect our pets, and affords some reassurance. It can make the difference between lost and found."

Visitors to the event are also encouraged to make food donations to help treat the dogs under the council's care over the Christmas period.
