A TOUCH of fresh-faced glamour descended on the Festival Leisure Park in Basildon as the Echo Modelsearch contest strutted back into town.

Youngsters and adults hoping for a catwalk career flocked to show off their talents as the competition returned to the entertainment complex for the 11th year.

Finalists whittled down by a panel of judges during semi-final heats on Saturday, braved the sporadic downpours to return for Sunday’s nail-biting final event, held on a catwalk in the car park.

Judges were spoilt for choice as pretty girls and handsome lads were in abundance, trying their best to win a place in the fashion world.

The entrants were competing for a range of prizes including a photoshoot with professional Leigh-based photographers, Len Dance Designer Images, worth £800, as well as the chance to get on the books of the Truly Scrumptious Child Model Agency and a test photoshoot with the Sandra Reynolds Model Agency.

Entrants were divided by age, with a boy and girl winner from each category.

Organiser Michael Tierney said: “This year’s entrants were better than ever.

“It was incredibly difficult for the judges to decide. Despite the rain, the day was a huge success and we are thrilled with the number of supporters who turned out to cheer the model hopefuls on.”

Rayner Wilding, 22, winner of the 16 and over section swaped her black belt for something little more comfortable to wow the judges.

The karate expert, of Southend Road, Corringham, triumphed in the 16 and over category of the contest.

Winner of the girl’s 11 to 15 section, Faye Brumby, of Kimberley Road, Little Wakering, was delighted with her win.

She said: “My mum suggested I enter after she read about the contest in the Echo.

“I can’t believe I’ve won. I’m really excited.”

Boxing enthusiast Michael Hales, 15, was cheered on as he won the 11 to 15 boy’ section.

The Castle View School student, who lives in Smallgains, Canvey, said: “I’ve never done anything like this before.

“My nan persuaded me to try out and I’m glad she did!”
