Saturday was a very tough game. I think we knew it was going to be tougher than people we giving Gloucester credit for.

We knew they could defend and although we started well the first goal took a while to arrive. I had a goal disallowed early on and if that had stood it could have changed things. But we got the breakthrough and it was lovely to win 1-0, and it was arguable as satisfying as the 9-1 the week before.

I had a strange day. Once or twice a season I seem to have days like it. I remember against Wealdstone and Tooting & Mitcham last season everything I did either hit the post or his the keeper’s arm. I was frustrated not to score as I do love it but the team won.

We are making sure we have the correct mentality heading into games and we know we will have to dig in at times. We want to be top as long as possible. We are doing the right things and we are slowly getting to where we want to be.

We play Taunton in the FA Cup this weekend and it is something of a grudge match for Deano [Brennan], Stu [Maynard] and myself.

They knocked us out of the competition two years ago in a replay while we were at Hemel. I had missed the first game through injury but played on replay. But I came off after 30 minutes with another injury and we lost so it was an awful experience all around.

They are a big physical team which is in contrast to us as we have quite a few technical players. We have contracting styles but we feel we owe them one.

Away from the pitch, we have a new committee which deals with players fines. Alan Julian, Ricky Modeste and Sam Deering are on the committee so there is no more wearing the wrong training kit or dirty boots. But the experienced players have let themselves down so far. Despite being on the committee Jules has been done for checking his phone in the changing room and wearing his flip flops in the shower. Poor form.
