COURTNEY Lumley is aiming to win more silverware after making a scintillating start to her career.

Lumley won promotion with Billericay Town Ladies last term and she also won the treble while coming through the youth system at West Ham United Women.

And, despite suffering a 2-0 defeat to Chichester City Ladies in the FA WNL Cup last time out, Lumley believes Billericay have made progress.

“I thought it was our best performance in terms of positivity,” said the 19-year-old.

“We were massively disappointed to go out of the competition, but we learned a lot and it proved to us how good we really are.

“It showed our potential and Chichester are doing well in the league above us.

“The match showed that we are good enough to compete in that league and although this season is a learning curve for us, I think we are good enough to win some silverware.”

While Lumley may still be a teenager, she has already achieved so much in her career.

Having been scouted by West Ham United Women, Lumley went onto win the treble with the Hammers and captain the under-18 side.

But Lumley, who is based in Billericay, is pleased to now be playing her football a little closer to home.

Lumley added: “I was playing for Runwell Sports Ladies in a cup game and it then turned out a West Ham coach was there and I was asked to have a trial.

“I was living at Wickford at the time and I couldn’t believe I was going to play for West Ham.

“We won the treble while I was there and I started in their under-16s.”

However, Lumley admitted Glenn Tamplin coming in as the owner of Billericay played a key part in her deciding to make the move.

“I wanted to feel appreciated and I didn’t think I was at West Ham,” admitted Lumley.

“When I joined Billericay, the club had a new owner and I wanted to be part of what he was looking to achieve.

“I love it at Billericay and hopefully we can go up because we are good enough.

“We brought in a lot of new players in the summer and they have given the whole team some confidence.

“They have made us up our game, which bodes well.”

West Ham are now plying their trade in the FA Women’s Super League - the top tier of women’s football.

And Lumley is eager to reach the top in her career.

“I take each season as it comes, but I see each game and session as another step in me gaining experience,” she added.
