MARC Harrison was left frustrated as Basildon United’s unbeaten start to the Isthmian North season came to an end at Aveley.

Just seven days after being knocked out of the FA Trophy by the Millers, the Bees suffered a 2-1 defeat at Parkside.

Eljay Worrell’s late penalty proved not to be enough as Alex Akrofi and Tom Richardson’s goals allowed the hosts to claim all three points.

And Harrison - whose side are now winless in their last three Isthmian North outings - felt the Bees deserved at least a share of the spoils.

Harrison said: “It was a frustrating night, but I thought Aveley were good. Their defensive shape was excellent and they restricted us to half chances.

“They were brilliant but we were not disappointing either.

“I thought we were really good in stages but it didn’t fall for us.

“It’s very frustrating because I think over the two games, we have done enough to get something out of them.”

Akrofi broke the deadlock from the penalty spot just before the half hour mark and the attacker turned provider as his through ball was expertly fired into the bottom corner by Richardson soon after the break.

Worrell gave the Bees hope with six minutes remaining as he dispatched his spot-kick after being brought down, but the visitors’ frustrations were compounded when captain Tommy Barton picked up his second yellow card and was dismissed deep into stoppage time.
