BASILDON United joint-manager Michael Walther is hoping to pick up his first points in charge of the Bees as they make the short trip to Romford tomorrow.

The Isthmian North clash, which is being played at East Thurrock United’s Rookery Hill, will be the Bees’ second fixture since Walther joined Lee Connor in the dugout.

And, having suffered a 1-0 defeat to Felixstowe & Walton United in their last outing, Walther wants fifth-placed Basildon to overcome Romford, who are 16th ahead of the encounter.

“We were unlucky not to get something from the game against Felixstowe, but there were positive signs,” said Walther.

“We’ve got to remain positive because the players gelled together really well despite it being one of their first games together.

“Romford are always a tough team to beat, as they showed by knocking Bowers & Pitsea out of the Essex Senior Cup, but I think the pitch will suit our style of play and we want to pick up some points.”
