ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman felt a 3-0 score-line at Southend United was not a fair reflection of the game.

Stanley were on top during the early stages at Roots Hall.

But Coleman felt Accrington paid the price for not converting their chances.

“I don’t think the score-line reflected the play or how the game went,” said Coleman.

“You don’t always get what you deserve in football and a couple of stewards came up to me at half-time and said they didn’t know how we weren’t winning and we were actually 2-0 down.

“But we’re in this mode at the moment when the ball won’t go in the net but it quite easily goes in our goal.

“Their first two attacks go in our goal but we could have been 4-0 up by then.

“If you don’t put your chances away you get punished but there’s no point bleating or complaining about it, we just have to get better at finishing.”

And Coleman - whose side have now gone seven League games without a win - feels most Southend fans would agree with him assessment of the game.

“Even the most ardent Southend fan would admit that the only area they were better than us was finishing,” said Coleman.

“We must have made 12 opportunities so they didn’t defend well and how they kept a clean sheet I don’t know.

“Fair play to them, their threw their bodies on the line and cleared a few off the line. But we didn’t defend well either and we have to take responsibility for that. We’re not a million miles away from being better than most teams we’re playing against.”
