GREAT Wakering Rovers boss Garry Kimble has challenged his side to play at the same standards they showed in the 2-2 draw with Aveley.

Wakering looked on course for an impressive victory at Parkside after goals from Ollie Woodhouse and Brian Moses gave the visitors a two-goal lead.

But title-chasing Aveley scored two goals in the final four minutes of the Isthmian North to steal a share of the spoils.

And Kimble has despondent after seeing his side throw away their lead so late in the clash.

“I’m absolutely devastated and the fact that we didn’t win the game has hurt me,” said Kimble.

“To be fair, we completely controlled the game from start to finish and there was only one team that looked like they were going to win the game and that was us.

“In all honesty, Aveley got out of jail by getting a point out of the game.

“We would have taken a point before the game, but after dominating the game and leading until the very end of the game it’s difficult.

“But now the boys have set the standards and if they drop below that they’re cheating.

“We outfought them and I thought we outclassed them at times. We outmuscled them as well so to only get a point from the game is a kick in the teeth.”

Moses and Shomari Barnwell caused the Aveley defence countless problems with their strength and pace.

And Moses capped off a fine performance by grabbing his first goal since joining the club last week.

But Moses was forced off through fatigue late on and his replacement, player-coach Stephen Butterworth, was sent off in a five minute spell to forget for Wakering.

Kimble added: “Moses came off but I thought him and Sham were a handful.

“They ran their defenders ragged and they will cause any defence problems.

“Brian hadn’t played for five weeks before joining us last week, so he will only get better.

“We’ve got some positives and we aren’t a bad side, but it’s disappointing to have conceded two goals.

“The substitutions killed us. Scouse (Butterworth) got sent off and then we were down to 10 men.

“Our backs were against the wall late on but, over the course of the 90 minutes, I thought we defended well.

“I can’t fault the players at all for their effort, but it’s how we conceded the two goals and the sending off that have disappointed me.

“If we had have held on, we would have been the first side to beat Aveley at Parkside this season.

“It would have been a statement result for us and it would have helped a lot of other teams fighting near the top of the table.

“But they nicked a point and I’m gutted. I’ll be looking for a reaction this weekend.”
