MARK Bentley is hopeful of Canvey Island ending the four-match losing run at home when Mildenhall Town travel to the Frost Hire Stadium tomorrow.

The Gulls have suffered defeats to AFC Sudbury, Soham Town Rangers, Witham Town and Bowers & Pitsea since they last picked up a positive results in front of the Canvey faithful.

But Bentley’s side have been in impressive form on the road - collecting three consecutive wins - and the former Southend United midfielder is keen for Canvey to bag three points against 19th-placed Mildenhall.

“We put on a good performance in difficult conditions at Basildon United on New Year’s Day, but I can’t tell what team is going to turn up when we’re at home,” said the Gulls boss.

“Everyone is positive but we have been here before and then lost to teams who we would be expected to beat.

“It’s almost like we need to start treating home games like away games, but I want the players to be confident and brave on the ball.

“We have scored four goals in both of our last two away games, but we were better against Bowers and perhaps deserved a point.”

Canvey went into the campaign looking to challenge for promotion from the Isthmian North, but they find themselves in 10th place.

And Bentley is targeting back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

“Getting back-to-back wins is a necessity,” added Bentley.

“We are a long way off where we want to be.”
