JOHN Sussex has been appointed the new manager of Basildon United.

Sussex, who was a member of the coaching set-up at Isthmian North rivals Witham Town, has been named as Neil Blackburn's successor at the Ho Ho Stadium.

And Sussex is eager to bring stability back to the club.

Sussex said: "Firstly, I would like to thank Lee (Connor, vice-chairman) and Dave (Maxwell, chairman) for this opportunity.

"I also want to thank Mark (Ashford) at Witham Town for allowing me to leave and the reins here.

"My initial aim will always be to bring some stability back to the club.

"I know this league well and will be looking to work with the current squad and maybe look at a couple of experienced Isthmian League players to help get us over the line.

"We have a tough run-in but won't be looking at rash short-term solutions.

"If we can pick up a few points to secure our place in the league, then we can regroup in the season break and plan for next season."

Danny Kerrigan has been appointed as Sussex's assistant manager.

Sussex's first match in charge will be a trip to Felixstowe & Walton United on Saturday.
