CANVEY Island will only have one recognised striker to call upon when Dereham Town make the trip to the Frost Hire Stadium tomorrow.
Martin Tuohy, who scored 50 goals in 129 appearances across two spells with the Gulls, has departed the club in favour of a move to Isthmian North rivals Great Wakering Rovers.
As a result, Canvey boss Mark Bentley will be hoping Adam Vyse is firing on all cylinders against 17th-placed Dereham this weekend.
Bentley, whose side are 12th in the standings, said: “Wakering put a seven-day notice in for Martin and he is very close to the manager (Steve Butterworth) there.
“We had a chat and I didn’t want him to go, but he saw the move as a good opportunity for him going forward.
“Martin would be the first to admit that he hasn’t scored enough goals this season, but he is a great character that will be missed.
“That leaves me with Adam as our only recognised striker for a tough game against Dereham.”
