EAST Thurrock United could be relegated from the National League South this weekend.

Rocks travel to St Albans City today and will need at least a point and results elsewhere to go their way if they are to avoid the drop.

But boss John Coventry admits relegation would put him out of his misery.

“St Albans are doing well but we can make any game difficult for ourselves, so I’m not sure it matters who we are playing,” said Coventry.

“They have something to play for and our situation is not pretty.

“The weird thing is that you look back at every result and if we had beaten Weston-super-Mare last weekend, even though we didn’t deserve to, we would only be one point from safety.

“But we could mathematically go down this weekend and whatever will be, will be.

“If we lose and other results don’t go our way then it will at least put me out of my misery.

“But if we manage to get a good result at St Albans and other results go our way then we will start to think that we can do the unthinkable and stay up.

“Until the last ball is kicked we will give our all.”

Rocks will make the trip to Clarence Park having suffered a 3-2 defeat to bottom side Weston-super-Mare last time out.

St Albans, meanwhile, are looking to break back into the play-off places.

Only three fixtures are remaining this term and the Hertfordshire side are only separated from the top seven by goal difference.

Concord Rangers took St Albans’ play-off spot with their midweek victory at Truro City.
