WILL Furness is the latest Southend United fan to have his say on the Shrimpers.

And Breathe.

Southend United have won a game of football for the first time since the 4-0 away win at Bradford in January, which feels like a century away now.

The sense of relief around Roots Hall at the final whistle was something to behold, the stands and players both rejoicing after Monday’s 3-2 victory against Burton.

It felt like a real moment, Roots Hall had not felt like that for years.

The fans needed that.

The players needed that.

Kevin Bond needed that.

Everything that has been negative regarding this club seemed to fly out the window as soon as that referee blew that whistle.

The performance was similar to ones like Fleetwood and Walsall with Bond in charge. The players battled hard, fighting for everything. This time however, we held out for a vital win and were a lot more clinical.

Simon Cox and Sam Mantom were especially excellent. Cox led the line in the usual brilliant fashion getting two assists and Mantom gave everything and more and it paid off with a goal in the first half.

It was hard to pick individuals in this game as the performance was a team effort.

You could go through most individuals and credit their performance.

Defence fragilities did show however as we failed to see the game out twice, leading to an extremely tense ending.

As the 90th minute struck, I think every fan got Deja Vu.

Not this time.

This being said, we’re only half way there.

Rochdale on Saturday is now everything, and we need everyone to get down there on Saturday and get behind the boys again as we did so fantastically on Saturday.

“This club just doesn’t know when it’s beaten”
