GREAT Wakering Rovers and White Ensign will continue their preparations ahead of the forthcoming season by facing each other in a friendly tomorrow.

The contest will take place at Wakering’s Burroughs Park, where White Ensign are also set to stage their home fixtures after leaving Basildon Sporting Village.

This will be White Ensign’s fourth encounter of pre-season and player-manager Brett Munyard believes it will be his side’s biggest test yet.

Munyard said: “We are very much looking forward to tomorrow’s fixture.

“Not only will it be the first time we have played at Burroughs Park since the groundshare was agreed, but playing against Great Wakering Rovers will be a massive test for us.

“We have had three very tough pre-season games so far, but Wakering will be our toughest test to date.

“Wakering are having a good summer and I think they will be a force in the upcoming season.”

White Ensign, who enjoyed a fruitful first campaign in the Eastern Counties League Division One South, began pre-season with a promising 2-2 draw against Stansted.

Munyard’s outfit have gone onto record 4-3 and 1-0 victories over Woodford Town and Hullbridge Sports respectively.

And Munyard is pleased with how pre-season is going so far.

Munyard added: “We are having a great pre-season.

“We have played three top sides and not been beaten but, more importantly, we have performed very well and the new players have settled in perfectly.

“Pre-season results don’t count for too much but we still set out to try and win every game and tomorrow will be no different.

“But we will need to be at our maximum to get a result. If not, it will be a long day!”

Wakering boss Steve Butterworth is looking forward to the meeting.

Butterworth said: “Brett has done really well in charge of White Ensign.

“They don’t really have a budget and I think they have become a close-knit group who are basically a bunch of mates.

“Finishing so high in their first team at that level is a great achievement.

“We played them in a friendly last season and they were a good side.

“White Ensign have already beaten Hullbridge Sports and Woodford Town, so they have made a good start to pre-season.

“But we have won each of our friendlies so far as well, so we’re looking forward to what will be a good test.

“We will enjoy being back on home turf as well.”
