MARK Bentley hopes Canvey Island will record a fifth home win of pre-season when Cheshunt make the trip to Park Lane tomorrow.

Cheshunt, who are managed by former Billericay Town boss Craig Edwards, will start their Isthmian Premier League campaign at East Thurrock United next week.

And, as a result, Bentley feels this will be the Gulls’ biggest test of the summer.

The Canvey boss said: “They are a league above and, knowing Craig, they will play a strong side.

“Cheshunt will be physically strong and it will be one of our hardest tests.

“I know we have also played Bowers & Pitsea and Hornchurch, who are in the same league as Cheshunt, but that was earlier in pre-season.

“They are only a week away from starting their season now, so I’m sure Craig will put out his strongest side.

“It will be a really good test which will allow us to see where we are and, although it is pre-season, we are on a good run and I’m hoping we can keep it going.

“Winning breeds confidence and, with a relatively new side, it’s important that we have a good mindset as we continue to prepare for the new season.”

Canvey go into the encounter having notched a 3-2 win over a Leyton Orient XI last time out.

The O’s started the clash with first team players Dean Brill, Matt Harrold and James Alabi.

And Bentley was pleased with the Gulls’ performance.

“It was another promising performance and the Orient squad was better than I was expecting, but we did well and held our own,” added Bentley.
