HARRY Wheeler has called on Billericay Town to stop giving opponents lifelines.

Town have already conceded two penalties and picked up a couple of red cards in their opening five fixtures of the National League South campaign.

And Wheeler admits Billericay cannot keep allowing teams into games if they are to enjoy a successful season.

The Town boss said: “The frustrating point is that we keep giving teams lifelines at the moment.

“We have had players sent off twice and also given away two penalties and you can’t afford to keep doing that.

“We weren’t at our best at Hampton & Richmond Borough, but you need to go and win 1-0.

“Instead, we gave away another penalty, they scored and that gave them a lift.

“The decision making isn’t good enough and we’re not doing the right things in important moments.

“There are little things that we could do better, although I can’t fault the desire or work rate.

“I just want the players to take away those lifelines we are giving teams.

“We need to make them decisions at the right times and have more composure.

“If we do that, we will be closer to being a complete team.

“No-one will ever be a complete team, but we will be closer to that.

“There are little hiccups at the moment that I am not happy about. It bugs me a bit.”

For the first time since the season got underway at the start of the month, Billericay have not been made to contend with a midweek encounter.

As a result, Wheeler has had little time to implement changes on the training pitch.

And Wheeler, who is eyeing a second promotion as Billericay chief having also led the club out of the Isthmian Premier League in 2018, feels the scheduling of the campaign is putting the fitness of players at risk.

“The schedule is a bit ridiculous and causes a lot of injuries for a lot of sides,” added Wheeler, who returned to the Steel Team Stadium for a second spell in charge in January.

“It’s nice to have two sessions to work on things together.

“We’ll prepare well for the week ahead and have a good week of training.

“The lads are winners and they want to succeed.

“We’ve just got to keep going and start ironing out the little hiccups.

“If we do that, we won’t be far away from where we want to be.”
