MARK Bentley is aware that Canvey Island must ‘cut out the little errors’ if they are to inflict a first defeat of the season on Maldon & Tiptree.

The Gulls make the trip to Park Drive tonight, where they will face a Maldon side who still boast a 100 per cent winning record in all competitions this season.

Canvey, meanwhile, suffered a 3-1 loss to Coggeshall Town at the weekend and Bentley has warned his side cannot make the same mistakes if they are to pick up a positive result against the Isthmian North table-toppers.

“We have to cut out the little errors,” said the Gulls’ boss.

“I’ll make changes if we don’t because we can’t keep giving soft goals away.

“I don’t care who they are. I gave players too many chances last season and I’m not going to do that again this year.

“I have a good bunch of lads and I’m not going to be too negative.

“We have started the season really well but that is two defeats in the league now and I don’t want to lose.

“I hate losing and they have got to step up.

“I know Maldon are on a great run and they are a good side.

“We’ve got to really put a shift in and see how we go.”

Canvey head into the fixture after throwing away an early lead against Coggeshall.

Tobi Joseph put the Gulls in front inside 15 seconds, but goals from Conor Hubble, Ross Wall and Michael Gyasi ensured Coggeshall triumphed.

However, Canvey will head to Maldon boosted by the return of George Purcell.

The summer signing has served a one-match suspension.
