BEN Search will be looking to build on a day to remember when Concord Rangers welcome Aveley to the Aspect Arena for a Thameside Trophy second round tie tonight.

While the Beach Boys were condemned to a 3-0 National League South defeat to Weymouth at the weekend, Search came off the bench in the 86th minute to make his senior debut.

And Scopes, who also handed a first team bow to Alex Hernandez in the loss to Dartford last month, believes Search has a lot of promise.

“Ben has come through the youth set-up here right from the start,” said the Concord boss.

“He has done very well and Ben captained the under-13s, under-14s and under-15s right the way through to the under-16s.

“Ben is now in the under-18s and I have always liked him.

“He made the trip to Weymouth with us and it was only right to give him some minutes on the pitch.

“I am pleased for him, like I was for Alex, and it was a nice moment for everyone involved with the youth set-up at the club.”

Search and Hernandez are likely to be involved when the Beach Boys take on Aveley.

Due to Concord plying their trade in the second tier of non-league football, Scopes is only able to select six players who enjoyed minutes on the pitch in their last outing at Weymouth.

And Scopes feels it will be a special night for a number of the club’s exciting youngsters.

“We are not afraid to throw some youngsters into the team,” added Scopes.

“But we need to make sure it’s the right time for them.

“We have a lot of 16 and 17-year-olds at the club and they are working hard.

“I would like to give some opportunities to those coming through the ranks and it’s important for us to find our own hidden gems.

“We can only play six players who were on the pitch at the weekend, so that limits our options.

“But we are still looking to win the game and we have belief in the youngsters at the club.

“I think seven or eight youngsters from the under-18s are likely to feature and it will be a good test for them against a good Isthmian North side in Aveley.”

Jack Cawley is also in contention to be involved in the encounter.

Cawley, who did battle with Aveley while on the books of Isthmian North outfit Maldon & Tiptree last season, can return following a three-match suspension.
