JAKE Robinson insists Billericay Town’s aim remains to challenge for promotion to the top tier of non-league football after the National League South club’s takeover was completed.

Glenn Tamplin stepped down as Town’s owner last month, leading to player departures and further doubts in the changing room.

But a consortium of local businessmen are now in control of the club and Robinson, who has won three trophies across two spells at New Lodge, is keen to enjoy more success after matters off the pitch were resolved.

“It is nice to know the takeover has been completed and, I can’t lie, it does affect people,” said Robinson.

“Obviously, at this level, it’s the players’ livelihood and job, so they rely on the stability.

“We haven’t really had that for the last few weeks or so, but we’ve got on with it and let the people behind the scenes deal with that.

“It’s great news that it’s done and dusted, but I want to thank Glenn for the last two-and-a-half years because he took a chance on me and paid some money.

“Ever since then, my career has kicked on and I’ve really enjoyed it.

“Hopefully we will carry on in the same vein with the same ambitions as before. Nothing changes in that respect.”

Robinson admits the weeks since Tamplin’s departure have been tough for the players as they looked to continue producing the goods on the pitch.

But, having met the new owners, the striker believes Billericay are in safe hands.

“It’s the uncertainty more than anything because I always feel you’re the last to know, as a player,” added Robinson.

“But we trust there are good people here because they want the best for the club and they always have done.

“There have been ups and downs and there will be more.

“I’m sure there will be changes as we look to be sustainable, but it sounds as though they have the best interests of the club at heart.

“Having met the new owners, they are good people who are very good businessmen.

“Hopefully the club will go to the next level.”

Jamie O’Hara took over as player-manager just a matter of days before Tamplin announced he was walking away from New Lodge.

And O’Hara believes the fans deserve credit for backing his side during a difficult period.

“It’s been a tough few weeks living week-to-week and not really knowing what’s going on,” he said.

“We’ve been trying to get it to where we are now and it’s fantastic for the football club.

“Everyone has got behind us and me. The support we’ve had from the fans has been absolutely unbelievable so now we can kick-on as a football club.

“Hopefully we can progress on the pitch now because this is a fantastic place and a club I’m proud to be part of.”
