GREAT Wakering Rovers sealed an Isthmian North victory over Soham Town Rangers, but a host of neighbours did not enjoy such a positive weekend.

Concord Rangers and Bowers & Pitsea suffered National League South and Isthmian Premier League defeats respectively, while Basildon United, East Thurrock United and Canvey Island exited the FA Trophy at the second qualifying round stage.

Wakering recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over Soham Town Rangers as they broke into the Isthmian North play-off places.

The only goal of the encounter came two minutes before the interval as Jake Gordon converted from the penalty spot.

Danny Scopes’ Concord suffered a 3-1 National League South defeat to Bath City.

The Beach Boys went into the clash having recorded back-to-back wins over Hemel Hempstead Town and East Thurrock, but they were unable to build on the return to form.

Bath moved into a sixth minute lead through Adam Mann but Southend United loanee Tom Clifford levelled matters on the half hour mark by reacting quickest after Decarrey Sheriff had been denied.

However, the hosts restored their slender advantage 10 minutes later thanks to Noah Chilvers finding the back of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

And Bath put the game beyond their visitors as Tom Smith let fly with less than 20 minutes remaining.

Bowers dropped to second from bottom in the Isthmian Premier League standings as they suffered a 4-0 defeat at Horsham.

Chris Smith put the home side, who went top of the league with all three points, in front inside 12 minutes despite Ryan Sammons’ best efforts to clear the attempt off the goal-line.

Dylan Merchant doubled Horsham’s advantage and, after the break, Smith completed his hat-trick with two more goals.

Basildon missed out on a first ever appearance in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy after suffering a convincing 6-1 defeat to Hornchurch.

Marvin Morgan gave Hornchurch a 15th minute lead at the Cousins Car Wash Stadium and the Isthmian Premier League high-flyers’ advantage was doubled by Charlie Stimson before the break.

The Bees fell further behind as Daniel Uchechi added his name to the scoresheet 10 minutes after the interval, while Stimson doubled his tally for the afternoon.

Ernest Okoh got a goal back for Basildon four minutes later, but the Urchins had the final say as Stimson completed his hat-trick before Lewwis Spence rounded off the scoring.

East Thurrock lost 3-1 to Isthmian Premier League rivals Bognor Regis Town.

Although Alex Clark cancelled out Bradley Lethbridge’s early opener for the hosts, Bognor were back in front inside 60 seconds thanks to Doug Tuck.

Lethbridge ensured there was no way back for John Coventry’s side by completing his brace nine minutes after the resumption.

Canvey were consigned to a 2-1 defeat at Haringey Borough.

Anthos Solomou broke the deadlock for Haringey three minutes before the interval.

Dimitri Froxylias doubled the hosts’ advantage on the hour mark.

Although substitute Kane Gilbert halved the deficit, there was no way back for the Gulls.
