LEE Connor insists Basildon United will go into tomorrow’s derby at Hullbridge Sports believing they ‘can beat anyone at the moment’.

The Bees have recorded back-to-back wins since Connor was installed as caretaker manager after Glen Kendall’s spell as head coach came to a premature end having been in charge for just outing earlier this month.

And Connor believes Basildon, who remain second from bottom in the Isthmian North standings, will make the short trip to the Ryan’s Heating Stadium in high spirits.

“There is a buzz in the dressing room, which is great,” said Connor.

“It’s a good place to be at the moment but that does not mean that we are taking three points against Hullbridge for granted.

“Darren Manning is doing an exceptional job at Hullbridge and he deserves a lot of credit.

“But I have a lot of confidence in the players and think we can beat anyone at the moment.

“We will be going to Hullbridge looking to get no less than three points because it has been a good week after getting wins against Tilbury and Canvey Island.

“It would be great to win three in a row.”

Hullbridge are 15th in the standings and four points better off than Basildon in their first ever campaign in the fourth tier of non-league football.

Sports will be involved in a first Isthmian North clash in three weeks, while their only other outing since was abandoned after Great Wakering Rovers’ Josh Wiggins suffered a double leg break in the Isthmian League Cup meeting.

And Hullbridge boss Manning is looking forward to seeing his side back in competitive action this weekend, with the hosts looking to claim local bragging rights.

Manning said: “It’s been a while since our last game but we have been training really well.

“However, we know nothing compares to games and the boys are eager to get back out there.

“It’s a huge game in every sense and we are keen to get out on the pitch and put in a good performance.

“We have a few injuries and suspensions that will rule some players out.

“But we’re in a good place and looking forward to the game.”

Manning could hand debuts to Shaye La-Rose and Michael Agboola after the duo joined earlier this week.

La-Rose has made the move following spells on the books of Premier League side Norwich City and Bowers & Pitsea.

Agboola is now with Sports after leaving Romford.
