CARETAKER manager Lee Connor has set Basildon United a points target ahead of Christmas.

The Bees struggled for Isthmian North points despite enjoying fine FA Cup and FA Trophy runs during the early stages of the season.

But Basildon are now unbeaten in the Isthmian North for more than a month and Connor is eager to bag another three points when Witham Town visit the Cousins Car Wash Stadium tomorrow.

“We have done really well over the course of the last month in the league and we want to continue that,” said Connor.

“I have set the players a target that we want to achieve before Christmas.

“If we manage to do that, we will be in the top half at Christmas and that would be fantastic.”

Despite departing the club at the start of November, Connor feels former boss John Sussex deserves a lot of credit for the upturn in form after leaving a talented crop of players at Basildon.

“The mood in the camp is fantastic,” added Connor.

“John built a really good squad of players and they are united.

“There are no bad eggs in the group and there are some fantastic characters here.

“We won’t take anything for granted against Witham because we know that they have a good set of players and manager.

“I have made sure that we have prepared for the game well and we want to make sure that we get a positive result to keep climbing the table.

“If we win, we will go above Witham in the table and that is an added incentive for us going into the weekend.”
