HAVING won the competition during his initial spell as a midfielder at Billericay Town, Jamie O’Hara has now set his sights on winning the Essex Senior Cup as the National League South side’s player-manager.
Billericay were due to welcome Isthmian North outfit Grays Athletic to New Lodge for a quarter-final tie tonight, but the clash will not go ahead due to a waterlogged pitch.
But O’Hara remains eager to bag his first piece of silverware in the hotseat.
O’Hara said: “I want to win the competition.
“I won it as a player for the club and it’s a good competition to win.
“It’s a trophy at the end of the day and this club wants to win trophies.
“We’re in it to win it and I’ll be playing a strong side whenever we play Grays.
“I think Grays are doing well in their league at the moment, so it’s not going to be an easy game.
“But it’s definitely a competition I want to win.”
With the likes of Harry Hudson, Dejon Noel-Williams and Nathan Harness joining the club in recent weeks, O’Hara now has a selection headache.
But O’Hara is pleased to have strengthened his options.
“We’ve got competition for places now,” added O’Hara.
“I’ve got options on the bench and I have told the boys if they aren’t a seven or eight-out-of-10, you aren’t going to play.
“That’s what you need at a football club.
“It’s taken time to get a bigger squad, but the board have been great and everyone has given me everything I have asked for.
“I believe we can achieve something with this group this season.”
