DAN Walker is overjoyed after making the move to Hullbridge Sports.

The former Southend United trainee has joined Sports just a matter of days after departing Isthmian North rivals Great Wakering Rovers.

And Walker is looking forward to making his mark at the Ryan’s Heating Stadium, where he has the backing of Hullbridge chief Darren Manning.

“I’m very pleased to have joined Hullbridge,” said Walker.

“I just can’t wait to get started now that I have signed.

“Being from Southend, it’s good to play for a team so close to me like Wakering was.

“The move came about when I knew I wouldn’t get into the Wakering side any time soon because of their good form.

“It’s hard to get into a side when they are doing so well, so I thought it was best I moved on to get game-time elsewhere.

“I knew Darren had wanted me for some time now and believes in me. He knows what I can do and that’s important.”

Having started his career on the books of Southend United, Walker went onto shine for Heybridge Swifts last term.

The frontman scored eight goals in 32 appearances and played a key role as Swifts won the Isthmian North play-off final thanks to a penalty shoot-out victory over neighbours Maldon & Tiptree.

However, due to the restructuring of the pyramid, Heybridge were not rewarded with promotion.

And, following a managerial change which saw Karl Duguid replace Julian Dicks in the Heybridge hotseat during the summer, Walker moved onto Wakering in October.

However, just one goal in 10 appearances resulted in Walker seeking pastures new and the striker is keen to enjoy success in his new surroundings.

Walker added: “My time with Wakering was short but I did learn a lot. I gained some experience, which is always good.

“Now that I am with Hullbridge, I hope to get back to scoring and playing week in, week out.

“Scoring goals will always help the team to where we want to be!”

Walker’s switch has allowed Hullbridge to bolster their attacking options, much to the delight of Manning.

“Dan will add real pedigree to our final third,” said Manning.

“He is a top player at this level and I have been a big fan of his for a while now.

“Dan was a vital part of the play-off winning team at Heybridge Swifts last year and I’m delighted to finally get the deal over the line!”
