A FOOTBALL supporter is trying to track down a ball awarded to former Colchester United hot shot Tony Adcock following a historic hat-trick.

Adcock, who scored nearly 150 goals and made nearly 400 appearances for the U's during two spells at Layer Road, was awarded the Mitre Delta 1000 football after scoring three times in Manchester City's thumping 10-1 victory over Huddersfield Town in November, 1987.

He was one of three players to score a hat-trick in the remarkable division two game at Maine Road, with Paul Stewart and David White also scoring three apiece.

Manchester City supporter and City memorabilia collector Mark McCarthy already owns the two match balls awarded to Stewart and White.

But he is desperate to now add the ball that Adcock donated to a charity event/auction held in the Colchester area, in the early 1990s.

He said: "I currently own the other two Mitre match balls from the game which were from Paul Stewart and David White so to locate the third and complete the set would be fantastic.

"It's a very long shot I know but I'm convinced the ball will be out there somewhere, possibly even gathering dust in a loft!"
