Danny Scopes proud as Concord Rangers reach Wembley final

The ex-Concord player was extremely emotional after the game and said that the difficult circumstances made the semi final win even sweeter.

“Things aren’t easy with Covid and new players and the game being thrown on us with five days to go, nothing could have been harder for us to achieve the dream that we have done," said Scopes. 

“This is for the volunteers, this is for the supporters and the people of Concord Rangers.

"I have been at this club for 13 years and these people have worked tirelessly, you only have to look around at the facilities we have got now and that’s all volunteers hard work.”

And Scopes can also be counted among the volunteers. 

“I do it for nothing and I don’t get paid," said Scopes.

"But I do it because I love this football club.

"I want to be part of it and days like this make it special.”

And the 45-year-old felt his team secured victory by sticking to their plan. 

“We had a game plan and we thought if we stick with it, we would get chances," said Scopes.

"We had to go a little direct because our chemistry is probably not quite there, but I knew when I was signing these boys we had the quality.”

Right back Nathan Carlyle was among the newcomers this summer and he was also thrilled to have already secured a trip to Wembley.

“I did not expect to be going to Wembley," said Carlyle.

"But we've just got to move on now, get back to training, keep working hard and we will see what happens.”

The match was played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic but Carlyle is keen to keep making the Beach Boys proud. 

“To the fans, I thought they were with us today, we felt them with us even if they were not," said Carlyle.

"It is unfortunate in the circumstances that they cannot come but we will give everything at Wembley as if they are there.”

The final will take place on the 27th of September where Concord will face the winners of Harrogate Town against Notts County.
