SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley felt his side came up short during this afternoon’s 2-0 defeat at Carlisle United.

Blues have now been beaten in their opening four games of the season.

And Molesley was left hurt by the latest setback.

“We’re disappointed and we’re hurting,” said Molesley.

“The lads gave everything and they’re working their socks off but we’ve come up a little bit short again today.

“We’re a young group and we’re learning but you only learn through your hardships.

“Some of the decision making at times wasn’t the best and maybe along with the conviction and belief in what they’re doing sometimes but that comes with a young side.”

And Molesley also believes Blues will learn from the defeat.

“They will be stronger for this and there were improvements from last week too,” said the 39-year-old.

“We need to keep having courage in our conviction in trying to apply what we know they can do.

“We have to pick ourselves up, keep fighting and keep coming back.”
