A GOFUNDME page to raise funds to support Southend United has now raised £1,000.

Keen Shrimpers fan Jack Lawrence set up the page after Blues were given a six week extension to pay a tax bill of close to £500,000.

And Lawrence has been delighted with the response so far.

“The majority of fans have been fantastic,” said Lawrence.

“They’ve helped share the page around on social media and have been very supportive.

“But hopefully more fans can get involved and we can all push in the right direction and try do what we can to help this club survive.”

Blues have also endured a tough start to the season on the pitch, losing four games in succession.

But Lawrence was keen to do what he could to help after the club’s latest appearance in court.

“I saw a few fans say after the result of the court case came out that someone should do a fundraising page so I thought why not,” said the 25-year-old.

“As fans we are all worried but I couldn’t sit there and do nothing and watch the team I have supported since I was three go under .

“At least I can say I tried if the worst case scenario does happen and we do go bust.”

Blues will be back in court in October but Lawrence has decided all money raised on his page will be donated to the Shrimpers Trust.

“I have been in contact with the chairman of the Shrimpers Trust and they are happy to look after any funds raised,” said Lawrence.

“They will use them to help the club when they are needed.

“Any funds raised will be greatly appreciated and hopefully we can all say we have tried something positive to help our club.”
