MORECAMBE manager Derek Adams felt Southend United were made to pay for their time-wasting during Saturday’s clash at Roots Hall.

Adams’ side fought back to triumph 2-1 against the Shrimpers.

And Adams thought Morecambe’s win was fully deserved despite their slow start.

“They started better than us and at 1-0 they started to waste a bit of time with their goalkeeper,” said Adams.

“I said to the referee at half-time this bites sometimes when this happens and they’ve lost 2-1.

“But I thought we deserved it and dominated the first half.

“We had eight shots at goals which we haven’t scored from and we have to be more clinical.

“They had one shot and they scored but we got it back in the second half.”

Aaron Wildig brought Morecambe back level before Adam Phillips fired home.

And Adams was thrilled to secure another win on the road.

“That’s two wins away from home now at difficult venues,” said Adams.

“Cheltenham were in the play-off last season and Southend got relegated from League One so the fixture card has been difficult for us.

“But this was a very good win for us.

“I thought we should have gone on to win the game in a better way but in the end we defended quite deep and allowed Southend to have the ball.”
