SOUTHEND United are waiting to hear back from the experienced striker they remain in talks with.

Blues chairman Ron Martin has made a contract offer to the forward who is currently without a club.

And Martin is hoping to hear back from him soon.

“We spoke on Sunday and I made a good offer to him,” said Martin.

“He’s played in the Championship and League One, he’s big and strong and will do well for us in both boxes.

“We’re hoping to hear back soon and along with Simeon (Akinola) and Sam (Hart) he will make a big difference.

“We are still confident we will lift the embargo next week."

Posts on social media had claimed Martin must pay £1million next week for the embargo to be lifted.

But the chairman insists that is not true.

"What’s being said on social media is a long way from the truth but I'll say more about that in the coming days," said Martin.

"A private conversation has been distorted and made public which is disappointing.

"I want what the fans want too and that's why I travel up and down the country to be at the away games."
