SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley was pleased to see his injury hit side pick up a point at relegation rivals Stevenage.

The 0-0 draw means the bottom of the table Blues are now seven points from safety.

But Molesley felt it was a positive result with so many of his players unavailable.

“In the circumstances it’s a good point,” said the Shrimpers boss.

“Tom Clifford coming off injured made it 10 players unavailable.

“But the endeavour and the determination was good and that’s what we’re looking forward for at the moment in the position we’re in.”

Molesley was without defender John White for the clash at the Lamex Stadium.

And the 39-year-old believes the constant chopping and changing is hitting his team hard.

“It’s hard to build a philosophy at the moment when there’s so much change and upheaval,” said Molesley.

“We lost John White late in the week with a hamstring injury too.

“We’ve not had any momentum with team selection but this group is working hard and digging in.”

Blues have still triumphed just once all season but could have picked up all three points had their converted one of two great late chances.

“We had chances but the story of our season is that we haven’t punished teams,” said Molesley.

“It was a good battling performances but we had the guilt edged chances.

“But we need to be putting them away to climb up the table.”

However, Molesley is remaining upbeat and feels the current difficulties be beneficial in the long run.

"It makes you stronger and you keep believing," said Molesley.

"When you have you a clear vision it makes things easier.

"We’re creating chances and we’re looking harder to beat now. We have nine or 10 players to come back too.

"It’s not like where are the answers, the answers are in the group.

"It’s just matter of getting them on the pitch all at the same time at the right time.

"But the clean sheet is something to build on and we move on."
