BASILDON AC travelled to Norwich for their latest National Young Athletes League fixture, but finished a disappointing fourth despite a solid team effort.

The Under-17 men found victories hard to come by but Ryan Wennington won the A javelin with ease and Will Matthews took the A pole vault.

Second places went to Dale Clutterbuck (A 800), Jo Peploe (A 100 hurdles), James Godfrey (B discus) and Grant Webb (in a tightly fought 3000m A race.

The Under-15 boys saw English Schools double champion Akeem Akintokun sneak a win in the A 100 with the same time as the runner-up.

Matthew Hardy romped to victory in the B 1500.

Mitchell Etheridge had to share his win in the A pole vault after officials were unable to separate the leading two on countback. Second places were recorded by Daniel Lamb (A 1,500) and Dexter Riches (A javelin).

The Under-13 boys only had five members fighting for points. Tom Watson completed a fine double over the A 200 and 1500.

Jordan Perkins earned a second place in the B 1,500 as well as scoring in the B long jump.

William Phillips finished second in the A shot and scored in the A 100. James Dalton narrowly missed out in third over the A 800 and also finished likewise in a close A long jump.

Final scoring counter was Keiren Perkins in the B 800 and shot. Watson, Dalton, Phillips and Perkins later joined forces to finish second in the 4 x 100 relay.

For the Under 17-women, Kelly Murphy almost came away with double glory after winning the A 200 and finishing second in the A 100 with the same time as the winner.

Gemma Vine had a good day, winning the B 200 and taking second in the A 300m and triple jump.

Double success came in the 1,500 from Sophie Carroll and Abbie Plonh.

Carroll also finished second in the B hammer. Kim Radmore scored two second places in the A discus and shot – as did Kerry Radmore in the B 300 and shot.

The Under-15 girls had a hard fought day with mainly third and fourth places keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

Emily Ballard was the sole victor on the track in the B 1,500m and was second in the B high jump.

In the field in-form Annabel Baker claimed the the A high jump and also secured second in the A long jump.

The Under-13 girls competed well with Emily Webb breaking the club 75 metres record when finishing in second place in the A in a tight finish.

Webb also finished in second in the B 150. Kaylee Dodd once again scored double glory in the A 150 and 1,200.

There was a hat-trick of personal bests for Emily Bullis who won the B high jump, was second in the B 1,200 and third in the A string 70 hurdles.

Poppy Attimore won the A high jump convincingly and Poppy Lake was second in the B long jump and shot.

Webb, Lake, Dodd and Abbie Alexander finished the day with second place in the 4 x 100 relay.
