Ryman One North: A pulsating game at Burroughs Park saw Wakering fight back from a two-goal deficit to share the spoils with their promotion-chasing visitors.

The village hosts showed their intentions in an entertaining affair when top striker Neil Richmond hit the woodwork after 10 minutes.

But it was Northwood who opened their account first when Huge Figueredo’s 18-yard free-kick sailed into the net.

Wakering’s attempts to get back on terms were first thwarted by an offside flag when Richmond netted.

Then they had penalty appeals turned down after Jimmy Webb had appeared to be upended in the box.

Otis Williams crashed the ball into the top of the net after 56 minutes to make it 2-0 for the visitors.

But brave Wakering were not to be denied. First they reduced the arrears when Webb was fouled in the penalty area by Danny Power and Dan Trenkel made no mistake from the spot.

That was on the hour and just two minutes later, to the delight of home fans in the 90-strong crowd, came the best goal of the afternoon when Richmond scored with a long range rocket effort.

Iain O’Connell’s Wakering go to Tilbury tomorrow night lying 15th in the table but knowing that three points could give them a big rise up the table — including overtaking their Dockers’ hosts.
