BASILDON snooker professional Stuart Bingham has eased his way through to the main event in the Maplin UK Championship.
In yesterday’s final qualifying round at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, Bingham overcame Jimmy Michie 9-3 in the best-of-17 frames match.
The duo were locked at 2-2 early on before the new towner put together a fine run of six frames on the trot to go into an 8-2 lead.
His opponent pulled back to 8-3 but Bingham won the next in a four-hour match.
Now he goes through to join the sport’s elite top 16 battling for victory in the main event, which gets underway at the Telford International Centre on Saturday with full coverage being given by BBC Television.
