LUCY Hodges has been shortlisted for the Paralympic power squad in preparation for the 2012 London Games.

A member of the Borough of Southend Swimming Club (BOSS), Hodges is due to travel to Loughborough University for the next round of trials.

This latest news adds to the excitement at the club when Hodges won Disability Sports Personality of the Year for 2008.

The Rochford Sports Awards were organised by Rochford and Rochford Sports Councils to salute sporting talent in the area.

Hodges award followed her tremendous achievements in the water over the past 18 months.

She is currently British record holder in the 50 and 100 breaststroke events and won eight gold medals at the DSE National Championships this year.

She also holds a collection of county, regional and national titles and records at both long and short course standard.

Hodges is a dedicated athlete who trains intensely around her job at Customs & Excise, and is not restricted to competing at the highest level in only one sport.

She also represents the Great British visually impaired sailing team and secured first and second places in regattas at this year’s British Championships.

Hodges is looking forward to the next round of selection trials for the World Championships which are due to take place in March next year.

And she hopes to add to her already impressive collection of international medals if she makes it to the World Championships.
