JOE Woolley’s penalty save earned a point for Thurrock at Ship Lane on Saturday.

With the game at 1-1, Woolley guessed the right way to make a great save from Guiseppe Sole.

Sole had given the visitors the lead from the penalty spot after 12 minutes after Kenny Clark was adjudged to have committed a foul in the area.

It came against the run of play and after Thurrock’s Paul Olima had smashed a shot against the bar.

But Olima did get on the score sheet on 19 minutes to draw his side level. Danny Hart crossed and Olima planted a powerful header beyond keeper Simon Evans.

A foul by Phil Anderson gave the visitors the chance to restore their lead from the spot two minutes after the restart.

But after Woolley denied Sole from 12 yards, Thurrock began to take control and almost took the lead when top-scorer Cliff Akurang headed just wide from Hart’s cross.

Late on the visitors almost nicked the points when Stuart Douglas clipped the bar. Thurrock are still looking for their first league win.
