REISS Beckford will be gunning for double gold today as he continues his remarkable week at the Common-wealth Games.

The 18-year-old, a product of Basildon’s South Essex Gymnastics Club, collected his second silver medal of the tournament yesterday.

He narrowly missed out on gold by 0.1 points to teammate Luke Folwell in the all-round competition following a slip on his dismount from the parallel bars.

It came two days after he was part of the England team which took silver in the team event in India.

Today, at 5pm, the teenager, from, Beckton, east London, will go for honours in the individual floor competition, in which he out scored all other competitors in yesterday’s all-round competition.

And Beckford, who trains at the Cranes Farm Road gym every day, is likely to be in the mix-up for gold again when he takes to the rings at 7.20pm.

And he will also be in the medal hunt tomorrow when he competes in the individual vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar events.

Speaking after yesterday’s performance, Beckford said: “I’m speechless really — it was such a great result.

“I never came here expecting to get a silver medal as an individual. But now I’ve got five more to aim for, so hopefully I can do well in those and bring back more medals.”
