SOUTHEND United skipper Craig Easton wants his side to start a charge up the League Two table with victory at Cheltenham Town tonight.

Blues are currently just a point above the relegation zone in 20th place after winning one of their last 11 matches.

And Easton knows his team must soon start to secure improved results.

“We are where we are in the league table, there’s no getting away from that but it could all change very quickly,” said Easton.

“Tonight’s our game in hand so if we can win that we will move up a few places and can then hopefully kick on from there.

“We know we haven’t won enough games and are down towards the bottom but we can’t afford to get downbeat.

“We have to remain positive and we all believe we are capable of bouncing back and getting back up the league.

“But we need results and we need them quickly too so that’s why this evening’s match is so important.”

Tonight will be the third time Blues’ game at Cheltenham has attempted to be played.

The first meeting, at the start of November, was abandoned in the 66th minute because of a floodlight failure with Town winning 1-0.

The rearranged fixture, a fortnight ago, was called off because of a frozen pitch and Easton hopes it will be a case of third time lucky.

“We haven’t had much luck with this game but it will be another real test for us,” said the Scottish midfielder.

“They’re just outside the play-off places at the moment and all games are hard in this league.

“Burton proved that on Saturday and tonight will difficult too.”
